Can you believe the politics behind this?

The PM of Malaysia, Najib Razak is know to have the taint of corruption swirly around him.
I would estimate that to attempt this ploy:

will only worsen his lot as the psychological read will not bend to his favour. 

Just for a start it will only raise more suspicious minds. And those that are already suspicious of him will become more intensely so.
