There are in certain quarters a standing suspicion that the beneficiaries of the Declaration are really NOT the descendants of the actual people who left Egypt with Moses.
They say the actual beneficiaries are the white, blond hair and blue eyed 13th tribe, who are Khazarian converts to Judaism and who of course spoke the Khazarian tongue, a.k.a. Yiddish.
They say the true descendants were the people of the land who lived through and under their Byzantine masters and then the new masters - the Islamic conquerors and then Crusading conquerors and eventually back to the Islamic conquerors.
Some of these Jewish people of the land, in time converted to Islam, some to Christianity. Some held to their Jewish faith.
Those who converted to Christianity lost out when the Crusades were finally kicked by Saladin.
So, before Ben Gurion's declaration of the State of Israel, these contrarian people are confident that the people of the land were Jews and their Judaic brethren who had converted to Islam.
