You have to wonder what is the elephant doing in it with its baby?
Just think. The presence of the elephant and its baby means the attending Asiatics cannot say those things that really concern them.
If they do, the elephant will want to jump in and help. So, they either have to shut up or use all sorts of linguistic metaphors and language warps and twists so as not to irk the elephant into action.
For this, I would feel this conference might have been better called a Trans-Pacific Conference. And that they hold a genuine East Asian Conference.
