I was left incredulous at the suicide rate.

In Neuro-Semanitc Programming, NSP, is the finding that that the decision to end one's life is a power that cannot be voided by religious edicts or parliamentary enactments. The evidence is that it is an innate human attribute, i.e. it is God given. People therefore can and will end their lives if they conclude that to go on living is discounted by the conditions in which they are in.

So, what were these conditions that the soldiers were in?
And how was it that for all its name and fame, English Medicine through its delivery system, the National Health Service, NHS, failed to undo the conditions that these soldiers were stuck in?
