North Korea

The N. Korean problem can be solved if the US will allow the North and South to come to a peace treaty by which they may live in amity with each other. Ideally the US is not to put its nose into the negotiations. Its domicile is 20,000 miles at the other end of the Pacific. So what on earth is its logic to do any meddling here, especially now that Communism has utterly collapsed.

This peace treaty must mean that the end of need for S. Korea to allow the stationing of American marines, Abrams battle tanks, helicopters and F 12 fighters in the soil of S. Korea; and the end of naval attack arrangements between the US and S. Korea against N. Korea; and the end of all air force arrangements between the US and S. Korea to bomb N. Korea.

America already has these arrangements with Japan to deal with North and South Korea if they ever as a unity takes a hostile disposition towards the US.

Put simply, the N. Koreans and China by extension, cannot go on enduring a US military spearhead at them.

If the US will allow this peace treaty, then N. Korea has no logical basis to pursue its nuclear programme

I can only surmise that the sticking point is the unwillingness of the US to give up its military bases in S. Korea.

If the peace treaty between North and South Korea ends the Korean war the beneficial consequences for all parties will be enormous not only for the people of the N and S Korea but also for all the collateral countries.

The US is to lift all sanctions against N. Korea pari passu with the progress of North/South peace talks. To not do so, and to continue to cripple the economy of N Korea would now be seen as a hostile act.

This will allow the economy of N. Korea to become capitalistic, especially with the help of Foreign Direct Investments, FDI. Because of US sanctions, this cannot take place. It means that N. Korean can join in multilateral free trade agreements with E. Asian and ASEAN.

With this the whole scene changes. If not the status quo ante Singapore will continue.

So, what does the US really want?

N and S Korea surely know what they want.

Read in between the lines and see who might be in the way!

Guess?
