In ancient times, it was the sovereign who had the final say who could be the Bishop; and the Church had to obey.

What China wants is the restitution of an ancient custom in which the Chinese nation and its State has the final say as to who is best to be the bishop of Chinese diocese.

What the Chinese nation and State do not want is a a foreign power of unnatural de facto eunuchs telling them who is to boss over 12 million Catholics.
