I cannot believe that his event might cost lives.

The USS guided missile destroyer, Fitzgerald collided with a Philippine container ship.

I have seen the pictures of the damage to the Fitzgerald and the container. 

I find it hard to see how it could have cost the US ship the lives that implicitly are indexed by this news item.
