IMF and World Bank are Western financial institutions. They were created to help a nation or a collection of nations in trouble.
They both had incredible power and both had a tilt of imposing severe austerities on the people of a nation who was in $/£ default that they were 'helping'.
This crippled people and whilst they bailed out the nation in $/£ default, it took years for people to come out from under the weight of the penalties that IMF and World Bank put on them.
So, along comes AIIB and it has a totally different philosophy.
