Jayalalithaa, the long time untouchable top politician of the Indian State of Tamil Nadu lived with a friend of very modest origins. I do not believe that she even has the equivalent of an Ontario High School Certificate.
However the great Jayalalithaa anointed her house pal to succeed her in the event of her death. Her death then happened. So now the anointed one is soaring to be officially ensconced on Jayalalithaa's throne. 
Then, it is discovered that she has to her credit US $10 million. Well, this is a lot of money. So how did she earn it?
