Trumpian PROTECTIONISM versus Global Free Trade

Protectionism has been tried, long before The Donald was born.

Free Trade is something that is relatively new. There is much in the way of evidence to suggest that as a new economic order it has benefited the participants; however one party, the United States of America has been trumpeting that it has not benefited at all. 

As the economic hegemon and whose currency is the principle reserve currency of the world, the US has enjoyed huge privileges and benefits. The one down side is that its one time incredible secular industrial base has seen a significant drop. However, its military industrial base is still pre-eminent in the world.

If by Trumpian legislative enactments and Presidential Executive Orders, the secular industrial based is restored and revivified, the question is whether The Donald will take the next logical step - 

ISOLATIONISM. 

Isolationism was tried for real when Imperial China in the Tang dynasty shut the world out. Japan also had then a similar poise.

Then the West came to force Free Trade on China and Japan. It worked wonders for the latter but failed for the former. For the former it was exacerbated by a Western Philosophy known as Marxism; and Chairman Mao was recognized as the leading Marxist philosopher of his age. This version of Western philosophy, a la Mao, brought nothing but ruin and desolation on the Chinese people.

However, the paramount ruler of China that followed Mao, did a small tweak to Chinese extreme socialist economy. Today she as a foreign reserve of US $3 trillion and an incredible secular industrial base. 

Recently, her President unfolded himself in Davos 2017 as the top champion of Free Trade.

So, if The Donald is true to his word, then in the foreseeable future we will see the possibility of:

Trumpian prosperous USA a la Tang Chinese style

versus

Free Trade World led by Europe, China, Japan, India, Russia.

May the two sides that this world will split into be at peace and amity with each other.

The alternative is that the Industrial-Military-Complex will have successfully incited The Donald to fractionate the Free Trade World. He would do this to war on the weakest link of the Free Trade World faction; and then the US Industrial-Military-Complex will get him to progress up the chain at the next weakest link, until the Free Trade World gone. The the whole wold would be under the aegis of the USA.
