Price for one barrel of oil

When Abraham's wife failed to give to him a son, she allowed her hand maiden, Hagar, to let an aged Abraham to go into her. The hand maiden conceived and she gave to Abraham his first born son. He was named Ishmael.

Then the menopausal Sarah by the gift of God, subsequently conceived and she gave birth to Abraham's second son. He was named Isaac.

Then Sarah was determined that Isaac was to inherit all that Abraham had. That she felt this need only meant that Ishmael was the clear right heir by desert nomadic tradition. To do this she put the pressure on Abraham to eject Ishmael and his mother into the desert. And God allowed this. 

We surmise that God, a.k.a. as JWH in Hebrew, must subsequently felt a lot of guilt for this. So to do the requisite amends:
i. Ishmael and his mother survived
2. from Ishmael's seed was to be the Arab nation
3. JWH the saw to it that where they settled, there would be oil and lots of it.

From the seed of Isaac was to come the 12 tribes of Israel.

As a result of the development of our history, as willed by JWH, we in the West have had to pay compensation for the wrong done to Ishmael and his mother, Hagar. We have had to transfer a humongous portion of our wealth base over to the sons of Ishmael.
