Each now can take the measure of the other. Each will know if it can whack the other at this scale and extrapolate to the outer limits of what is possible or impossible.

That it takes place off the coast of Florida, USA is for me, even more interesting. 

Those are thousands of miles from their home base. They are stretched to their limits to maintain their requisite supplies.

You have to wonder where their mother ships are?
