If we leave it to natural unfolding conditions to determine how we might we evolve, we may have the misfortune of becoming "whatever" which turns out to be a blind alley.

We are the only creatures that can determine how we evolve.

I, personally, prefer that we leave it our wits and conscience versus to leave it to blind chance.
