I knew about this Islamic Law. 

However, I concluded that it was not practiced based on my thinking that in this day and age, a well educated boy and now man would recognize its cruelty and harshness. For this, he would not use this law.

That it is as widespread as it is in India, just think of what is going on today in the United Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Yemen, Sudan and in Islamic Africa.

It is a kind of perverse enslavement of women.
