Another example of the irresponsibility of politicians1

When oil was at $100+ /barrel, the municipal politicians waxed to bring the Commonwealth Games to the city of Edmonton.
And the tar sands oil rich province of Albert was swept by their enthusiasm and promised the city one billion Canadian dollars for their project.
Now alas, oil is about US $50/barrel. The province of Alberta has withdrawn their $1 billion promise to Edmonton.
Have the city politicians of Edmonton withdrawn their application to hold the games?

NO!

So, when the province cannot afford it, how on earth can a municipality afford it? Where are these municipal politicians of the city of Edmonton going to find the money.
With the $1 billion, there was already the smell of corruption.
Now . . . ?????????????
