It was very clever of the U.S. to oursource their war in Afghanistan to Nato

If they had not done it, then this would have happened to them:

And if it had involved American lives, the American people would be even angrier at their government.

And it was singularly unwise and stupid step by NATO to take on this thankless task and to risk their military personnel. After all NATO was formed to deal  with problems in Europe.
