Chinese submarine training

Well, for a country that in the late 19th century having only on decorative leisure stone boat in the Imperial Lake of the Emperor's Summer Palace in Beijing for its navy, China has come a long way:

I do not remember the actual date but there was once a U.S. Naval task force that was out on full naval manouevres. Then suddenly to the shock of the commanding admiral in his aircraft carrier, up popped a Chinese submarine next to him. It went undetected throughout the naval exercise.Theoretically it was in a position to sink the U.S. aircraft carrier and slip away.

It had escaped all detection devices of that naval task force.

There were many U.S. red faces. It was never disclosed how many heads rolled for this egregious faux pas..
