Naturally it is happening, in any case, by the processes of natural selection. Natural selection is intrinsic to the engine of Darwinian evolution. There is no escape from it.
However, if we leave it entirely to this engine of Darwinian evolution - it is incredibly and tediously slow and it has a very haphazard and chancy quality to it. It could produce a drop in our biological character.
Today, we are masters of over our genome. With time our mastery will improve, better and better and surer and surer. And we can manipulate finer and finer.
In the latest work by Dan Brown entitled, Inferno, he proposes that we take control of our evolutionary future and determine how we are to improve our species.
If this is too much to face, too blasphemous to confront - then stay out of it, because, in my view, we shall in the end have no choice but to decide on this very matter - for:
the greater common good of the individuals
and
the greater common collective good of human societies.
If by eugenics we can bring forth successive generations with IQs of 200, 300, 400 and on, it would be insane for us not to.
If by eugenics we bring forth successive generations of humanity who are resistant to common cold, strep throast, syphilis, aids, tuberculosis would be immoral not to.
Our uncharted future will have a better chance than track record of the millennia of our history. Anything would be better than how we have been and are.
