This paper explicates the phenomenon of the OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) of the U.S.' hot pursuit for countries to whack. These have recently included the 'domino theory', 'al Qaeda' and 'weapons of mass destruction'.
For its war against 'domino theory' the Vietnamese had more bombs dumped on them than all the bombs use by the U.S. in WW II. For war against 'al Qaeda' Mullah Omar was last seen riding his motor cycle into the sunset and the U.S. has still not found him. For its war against 'weapons of mass destruction' according to the Lancet over a million were killed in the initial stages of the Iraq war.
You really have to wonder which will be the next nation for whacking that the U.S. will next include to this list of countries!
